Oh wow.
I kind of don’t know a better phrase to describe it.
Last week one of my CU friends invited me to this thing called “Passion London” to be held on June 5th, and I figured it would be a neat experience and that I probably wouldn’t have much else to do that night, so I entered it into my diary (clever English word for a calendar).
Today was the day–and what a day!
It helped to have spent several hours (not even exaggerating) earlier in the day in a Bible study with some of the girls about how Jesus fulfills the Old Testament promises–oh, if only I could go into more detail, but there’s just so much to tell! Suffice it to say that He does, as our great High Priest as well as the Passover lamb, and grace is simply an amazing thing! Anyway, Helen has been leading us in these studies for the past several weeks–a few months, really, I think–and has been spectacular. Thank you, Helen!
So, that was this morning and afternoon. And it was a pretty wicked exciting morning and afternoon, too, so I went to this Passion thing with some pretty good expectations.
And, honestly, it blew all of them away. Totally.
Perhaps I should explain a bit of what Passion is, though, in case some of you are like I was until about five hours ago: completely clueless. It’s this worldwide tour that takes Christian artists and speakers around the world (most recently to Kiev, Stockholm, Brazil, Uganda, Paris, and LONDON) to spread the gospel and to unite Christian college/university students for the fame of Jesus’ name. So we had people like Louie Giglio and David Crowder (and his band, yes), Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin with us in London this evening.
It was phenomenal. We went straight from “Blessed Be Your Name” to “You Never Let Go,” sprinkled in a little “Mighty to Save” (and some other songs, of course, too many for me to recall so I just point out the highlights), and heard a testimony through the journal of one girl who in two weeks went from hating God and Christians to becoming one herself, all through the amazing grace of Jesus Christ.
And–this is one of the best parts!–many of the songs that we sang were about the work that God is going to do in this city through this generation. Because, let me tell you, God is just getting started in the London area, and I sincerely hope that my generation (myself included!) will rise up to the challenge of joining Him in His work.
You too, America. And Charlotte–oh, boy, tonight was just like an Elevation service, except not at Elevation. So Charlotte, get ready…because our Saviour, “He can move the mountains. Our God is mighty to save.”
