You will all be happy to know, I’m sure, that I finished the laundry. And I have been far more careful with my clothes consumption this week.
On a sadder note, however, I have learned that both nearby post offices are clean out of James Bond stamps. And, as they are collectable, commemorative stamps, they won’t be getting any more. I’m sorry to have gotten anyone’s hopes up on that subject, including my own, but if you can settle for normal British postage then send me an address and we’ll get those letters squared away in due time.
Speaking of the post, I got a package today from Mum and Dad. (Oh, wasn’t that so very English of me?) It was in one piece, but the Pringles Stix weren’t, I’m afraid. I have already made use of one of the notecards to fashion myself a bookmark for A Little Princess–using, also, a few of the stickers from my magnificent stickered colouring book! Ah, utility!
I also used my umbrella (ella, ella, eh, eh, eh–sorry, couldn’t help it) today–rather unsuccessfully. I should have taken a hint, I guess, from the locals; none of them were using them. (I don’t use “locals” in a derogatory way, of course, but as an identifier, in case the matter should come up for some reason.) They all had the sense to wear rain jackets with hoods, or perhaps a hat, instead of trying to wield an unwieldy umbrella in the breeze. See, it was windy as well as rainy, so the gusts flipped my contraption inside-out a couple of times before I gave up on it and tied my scarf around my head instead. Then, I felt very European. And I decided that I must needs find some place that sells wintery hats for my budget.
Now, about that French Revolution class…I hate to keep us all in suspense, as you might imagine, but I feel pretty sure I’ll have a better idea of its true difficulty after the seminar tomorrow, when the professor will go over the syllabus in detail and let us know a little more of what’s expected. I would hate to make an uninformed decision…
Speaking of uninformed decisions leads me to think of my political knowledge, which reminds me that I missed the State of the Union address this year–but I wonder, for any of you who managed to tune in, did the speechwriter take my advice at all? Just curious.
Be seeing you!
Who needs a hat for the rain? Take a hint from the lady at the Tomb of the Unknown Soilder!
Um…though you have a valid point, I don’t think that would give our British friends a very elevated opinion of Americans…:)
Rain in England! Surely you are kidding us. It also rained here yesterday 2/1/08. Today is clear and warmer. I sound like Charles Ewing. Have some fun today and stay dry.
